Torture and Abuse of Office: The Shocking Case of Two Police Officers
Justice Served? Two Officers Charged with Torture Over Unlawful Detention

Two former police officers from Eastleigh North Police Station are currently facing serious allegations of torture and abuse of office related to the unlawful arrest and detention of a woman in 2021.
Rebecca Njeri Muraya and Sergeant Abdisalam Ahmed appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina, where they both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The officers are accused of detaining Ayni Hussein Mahammud on December 31, 2021, allegedly to intimidate her from following through on an assault complaint she had filed against Abdihakim Saidi Jama.

The charge sheet indicates that the officers arrested Mahammud without just cause and held her at Muthaiga Police Station for two days, seemingly to obstruct her pursuit of justice. They are charged with torture under Section 4(a)(iii) in conjunction with Section 5(1) of the Prevention of Torture Act, as well as abuse of office under Section 101(1) alongside Section 102 of the Penal Code.
