Equity Bank Salary Controversy: Kajiado County Responds

Kajiado County Stands Firm Against Equity Bank Salary Withholding Claims

The Kajiado County Government has denied claims that Equity Bank is delaying the payment of staff salaries due to unremitted loan deductions, labeling these allegations as unfounded and malicious.

Chief Finance Officer Tima Sankaire expressed his lack of awareness regarding such issues, pointing out that he himself has a loan with Equity Bank and has not experienced any salary withholding.

He acknowledged that some employees with multiple loans might be facing deductions, but reassured that his own salary remains unaffected.

Sankaire encouraged any employees experiencing difficulties to approach him directly for assistance in resolving their concerns with the bank, while also condemning those who propagate these rumors as malicious.

In contrast, an anonymous staff member provided a notice from Equity Bank indicating a loan balance and a warning about potential penalties due to unpaid arrears, claiming that the county had not remitted loan deductions for three months.

This situation has raised significant concerns among employees regarding the county government’s management of their financial responsibilities, particularly as Sankaire did not address the reasons behind the delays in remitting these deductions.
